In my evaluation i am going to talk about both the advantages and disadvantages i came across while producing my magazine and contents page, and how it both follows and deviates the codes and conventions of a magazine, i am also going to talk about the problems i encountered and how i could improve my product.
For my media product i used the list of codes and conventions which my product both follows and deviates throughout all of my work, for example on my front cover i have used a positioning statement, 'bringing school news to you' also i have the date, issue number, positioning statement and a barcode at the bottom. I have a large masthead so it stands out to the reader clearly. Magazines usually have two contents pages, but as i did not have as much time i chose to do one, also the reader does not spend too long reading the contents page so that is where i challanged the codes and conventions.
I used new media technologies such as Quark Express and Photoshop for my media product, while using Quark Express i didnt understand it at first as it was a new software to me, but after using it a number of times i developed an understanding of it and how it works, I found that Photoshop was a lot easier to use though as i have used it before for other products i have done also it is set out more clearly and you can undo layers much easier if you do something wrong or need something changing.
During the making of the magazine my strengths were gathering and making up coverlines and following the codes and conventions, my weakness was gathering pictures and the layout i chose to do i did not like, as my work was misplaced the first time i tried to follow my sketches as best as i could but i prefered my first peice of work, and that was my disadvantage.
My magazine cover and contents page has changed alot since my sketches and original ideas the reason for this is that i was developing my ideas and they seemed to be getting better than what i already had planned.
If i could improve anything on my magazine it would be my front cover as i am not as happy with it as i could have been i think changes to the font and picture layout would be done.
